Tappa 7 - Ventimiglia

G. Rossi Archaeological Museum

Rising perpendicularly above the sea, Fort Annunziata was built in 1831 by the Savoy royal family, not far from the ancient route of the Roman road, and it now houses the Ventimiglia Archaeological Museum. Exhibits include remains of considerable interest from Albintimilium, where the local historian Girolamo Rossi began his excavations in the second half of the 19th century; memorial tablets, sculptures, lamps, clay statuettes, glass and ceramic objects are on display. On the Terrace level you can see one of the sections of the “Via Iulia Augusta” exhibition, with information about the entire road.
